No, While it is encouraged that each swimmer attend all meets, it is not a requirement.

Does my child have to swim in every event?
No, in fact no one swims in all the events in a given meet. Penguins are encouraged to swim in certain events based on skill and their own desire. The hosting team may put certain limits on the number of swimmers in a given event.

What are the strokes used in competitive swimming?
Freestyle, Back, Breast, Butterfly

What events are typical in a swim meets?
While each meet may be a little different, generally the following events are done. 25 and/or 50 Freestyle, Breast, Butterfly and Back (younger swimmers) 50, 100 and/or 200 Freestyle, Breast, Butterfly and Back (older swimmers) 100 or 200 Medley Relay (Distances vary based on swimmer age) 100 or 200 Freestyle Relay (Distances vary based on swimmer age) All distances are in either meters or yards depending on facility. What is a Pentathlon? A Pentathlon is a swim meet where all swimmers will race each stroke (Butterfly, Back, Breast, and Freestyle) plus an IM. Hence 5 events and the meets name. The times of each race are then combined to determine overall rankings. What is an IM? IM stands for Individual Medley. This is a race where the swimmer will perform all 4 strokes (Butterfly, Back, Breast, and Freestyle) during the course of the race. Depending on length the swimmer will do one or more lengths of the pool inn each stroke. When this is done with a relay of multiple swimmers, each swimmer does just one of the strokes for their rotation.

How do I get a Penguin team swim suit or other clothing?
Swimsuit and clothing orders are placed at the beginning of each session. During the middle of a session no orders will be taken, since unless we order in bulk we do not get the same discount. Typically these order are taken during the registration process for a given session.

How are ribbons and medals issued for a meet?
Ribbons and medals are handed out based on finish within a given meet/event. This is determined by the hosting swim team and will vary from meet to meet.

Do the Penguins supply transportation to away meets?
Depending on where the meet is being held and the number of swimmers participating, a bus will be provided as needed. Typically a small fee is charged for any swimmer riding the bus. Bus arrangements will be announced prior to any meet. And are listed on the calendar.
